Custom Instructional Reading

This custom instructional reading introduces students to the principles of effective technical instructions through audience-centered design, usability, organization, and procedural communication. The page combines concise instructional writing, structured content hierarchy, and collapsible learning sections to support engagement, reduce cognitive overload, and guide students through foundational concepts connected to a multi-week technical instructions project

The expanded “Experts and Users Think Differently” section demonstrates how instructional content can support audience awareness and user-centered communication through comparison, structure, and applied examples. The section uses concise explanations and a side-by-side comparison table to help students understand how expert assumptions can create usability problems for beginners, reinforcing key technical communication concepts in a clear and accessible format.

The workflow infographic provides students with a structured process for using AI responsibly during the writing process. The visual breaks responsible AI use into five clear stages — exploring ideas, processing information, disconnecting from AI tools before drafting, independently verifying information, and creating original work — helping students understand how AI can support learning without replacing critical thinking or authentic communication decisions.

This artifact reflects my approach to teaching and learning through clarity, progressive guidance, cognitive load reduction, and authentic application. Rather than relying on policy language alone, the page combines instructional writing, visual communication, structured organization, and practical workflow design to help students develop responsible decision-making skills in a contemporary learning environment.

Module Tasks

The module tasks dropdown provides students with a concise checklist of everything they need to complete for the week, including readings, videos, discussions, quizzes, and assignments. Organizing tasks within a collapsible section helps reduce information overload, supports time management, and allows students to quickly reference course requirements throughout the module.
